Some Andrew News

I just said goodbye to Andrew.  He was home for a week's break and is flying back to Illinois today.  We will not see him until graduation in June.  I expect invitations to be sent sometime over the next six weeks.   It will be a wonderful event beginning with the senior play on Friday evening.  Andrew is playing the mayor in The Music Man.   The graduation ceremonies will follow on Saturday, beginning with a Solemn High Mass in the morning and then I believe graduation itself sometime in the early afternoon.   I am hoping there may be some Rugby in there somewhere.  I am also going to try to scope out a place for a graduation dinner while we are out there.    Details forthcoming.

I do not think Andrew will mind me announcing his post-graduation plans.  After spending time discerning vocation, visiting seminary, and getting guidance, he finally applied and was accepted to SUNY Potsdam and to Clarkson University.  He visited Clarkson for the first time this week and paid a second visit to SUNY.  Both schools gave him significant scholarships/grants/aid.  He has accepted Clarkson and as of now plans to study on a Pre-Med track.   The schools have a reciprical relationship, so if he wants to take a music or drama course at Crane (he enjoys the arts), he will have that option.

For Greater Glory

Finally.  Cristiada (renamed 'For Greater Glory'), the film about the 1920's Mexican Catholic uprising in response to the fierce persecution of Catholics from the socialist Freemasonic government, will hit theaters in June.

Violent anti-clericalism.  We've seen it in France.  We've seen it in Spain.  We've seen it in Germany.  We've seen it in South America.  We've seen it in Mexico.  I fear it is not far off in America.

A Touch of G.K. for Wednesday

I ran across the following quote from the Apostle of Commonsense this morning.   Perhaps I should send it along with the Baltimore Catechism to Nancy Pelosi and her ilk...

“Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car.”
-- G.K. Chesterton

I think that Spring is finally here! From the melting snow, a big puddle was formed in our ditch! With a few improvements we made, it is now big enough to sail in. Here is a couple pictures I took of our fun. Enjoy!

St. Thomas Day!

Today is the great feast of St. Thomas Aquinas.  St. Thomas was the great Dominican philosopher, and he wrote many books concerning God and his creation.  St. Thomas Aquinas, Pray for Us!

"To one who has faith, no explanation is necessary. To one without faith, no explanation is possible."St. -Thomas Aquinas
"It is requisite for the relaxation of the mind that we make use, from time to time, of playful deeds and jokes." -St. Thomas Aquinas
"Better to illuminate than merely to shine, to deliver to others contemplated truths than merely to contemplate." -St. Thomas Aquinas

The Society of St. Pius X (SSPX)

Here is a good interview on Real Catholic TV (not affiliated with the SSPX) on just who are the SSPX, where they came from, what they are doing, and the status of their current discussions with the authorities in Rome.

The only point of fact that I found to be incorrect was the statement that 'Pope John Paul excommunicated the four bishops'.  The pope did not excommunicate the four bishops.  He only confirmed the penalty of latae sententiae (automatic) as prescribed by Canon Law for consecrating bishops without a papal mandate.  It may sound like it is splitting hairs, however the Society does a good job in demonstrating through the canons that the automatic excommunication was never valid in their case.   It is also important to note that while the bishops may have incurred that penalty in the eyes of the Rome, the Society priests and any Catholic faithful who attend their chapels did not.

Maybe we can finally start to get beyond the SSPX caricature and the misinformation spread by sources, well meaning or not, who are not fully appreciating the magnitude of the crisis in the Church, its roots, and the surest path of finding the way out for the salvation of souls (i.e. holding fast to Tradition as Catholics have always done): http://www.realcatholictv.com/share/watch.php?vidID=roma-2012-02-19
